Handicapping sports as a profession is not conducive to actually
attending games, as you can’t read, research, analyze
stats, and get a handle on the strengths and weaknesses of multiple
teams when at a football game. I was reminded why on Monday
night at the Saints/Falcons Monday night game. The TV timeouts
were absolutely interminable, and when we left in the latter
stages of the 3rd quarter it was nearly midnight. It is likely
that the majority of fans who remained for the entire game got
home at 2AM or later, which must have caused a significant dip
in productivity for the Georgia workforce on Tuesday. Benefits
to being at the game include the opportunity to see the pass
defense develop (which you miss in the tight shots used on TV
coverage), as well as an unfettered look at the substitution
patterns and personnel groupings, which you are the mercy of
the announcers to inform you of when watching a game.
The Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, and Tennessee
Titans play in stadiums that had to be renamed due to a bankruptcy.
The Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins play in a building that
has a name change due to a corporate buyout. Meanwhile the
soccer stadium in Graz, Austria will have it’s named
changed due to the delicate sensibilities of our moral superiors
in Europe. The stadium will no longer be named Arnold Schwarzenegger
Football Stadium. Why? Because the native son of Graz did
not issue a stay of execution for a convicted quadruple murderer
in California. While flaunting their moral superiority the
city fathers don’t seem to realize that Schwarzenegger
wasn’t on the jury that convicted, nor was he the judge
who sentenced, he simply didn’t have anything presented
to him that he felt compelled him to get in the way of California
state law. It is safe to assume there are plenty of things
in Graz still named for locals who were in bed with the Nazis
back in the 30’s and 40’s.

you can learn things that you can use down the line.
New York Knicks teammates Malik Rose and Nate Robertson brawled
in the shower room over an unpaid football bet. Rose admitted
that he tried to back out of the bet during the game when
Eagles' running back Michael Westbrook was injured. "All
bets aren't good until halftime," he told the New York
Daily News. "When Westbrook went down, I didn't want
to bet no more and Nate won't let me out of it. I don't think
I should have to pay because all of my guys were injured."
Sports bettors would flock to a sports book with such an
injury rule. Rose also claimed that, "Nate tried to jump
on me when I was naked, thinking he had the advantage that
way." Sounds like the Knicks shower room may be a place
to avoid.
The Eagles and Rams, two teams out of the playoff mix, match
up in an indoor game that seems likely to soar over the total.
Both want to see what their young quarterbacks have to offer,
which could lead to both scoring drives on one side and turnovers
that lead directly to scores on the other. Rams games are
simply high scoring. The average game in the RCA dome this
year has seen 52 points scored. Once feared, the Eagles defense
currently ranks 25th in the league and this beat up unit is
allowing 6 yards per play and over 28 points per game in their
road games. The lack of pressure on opposing quarterbacks
has been notable, after having the second most sacks in the
league last year Philly is tied for 21st in the sack rankings
this season. Really no reason for these teams not to just
let it fly here. Go over the total.
